FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Questions We Get Asked First

What Summit Trading Group does, what it does not do, who it works with and how an engagement is agreed — answered in the words companies actually use to ask.

The company
  • A business-to-business trading and commercial development company working between the United States and Mexico. Our role is commercial: identifying the opportunity, connecting the right companies, facilitating the relationship and coordinating the process between the parties involved.

    About Summit Trading Group
  • The United States and Mexico. That corridor is the focus of the entire platform — sourcing in Mexico for the U.S. market, or introducing a U.S. product into Mexico — rather than one region among many.

    US–Mexico trade
  • The model is built for companies, not consumers. In practice that means manufacturers, suppliers, importers, exporters, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, procurement departments, corporate and institutional buyers, private-label brands, industrial companies, and entrepreneurs with an established commercial opportunity.

    Who works with Summit
  • Medical and healthcare, food and beverage, consumer products, industrial and commercial products, and general merchandise. Each category is evaluated opportunity by opportunity against the rules that apply to it in both markets.

    Industries we trade
  • English and Spanish. The whole site is published in both, and inquiries are read and answered in the language you write in.

What we are — and are not
  • No. Summit Trading Group is not a licensed customs broker or customs agent, and does not hold sectoral import registries. Customs procedures, tariff classifications, declarations and regulated filings are carried out or validated by the authorised professionals involved in the operation.

  • No. Logistics forms part of certain operations, but it is not what this company is. Where an operation calls for transport, warehousing, customs clearance or insurance, that service is performed by the corresponding provider under their own licences — services may be coordinated through qualified independent providers when required.

    Cross-border coordination
  • Neither. Warehousing, consolidation and transport are coordinated with independent providers when the operation calls for them, under their own licences and authorisations.

  • Unless supporting documentation exists for a specific project and has been provided, Summit Trading Group does not represent itself as holding regulatory permits, licences, authorisations or FDA registration for any particular service. Where such requirements apply, they are obtained, performed or validated by duly authorised providers or professionals.

  • Eight have a page of their own: import solutions, export solutions, product sourcing, trading and distribution, supplier development, buyer and distributor connections, cross-border coordination, and market entry support. Adjacent work — RFQ management, sample coordination, documentation coordination, private-label and contract manufacturing sourcing — is part of a project rather than a product sold on its own.

Working together
  • Through one of six models: project based, sourcing fee, commercial commission, representation agreement, business development retainer, or a custom agreement. The scope decides the model, and it is agreed before the work starts — what we do and how it is compensated are settled in the same conversation.

    How we engage
  • Five phases. We understand the opportunity — the product, the company, the market and the commercial objective — then evaluate it, identify potential suppliers, buyers, distributors or partners, coordinate the commercial process and the third-party resources it needs, and the transaction moves forward once the corresponding parties have agreed the terms.

    How we work
  • No. The first exchange is about understanding the opportunity and whether there is one — scope and compensation are agreed afterwards, before any work starts. Commercial terms exist only once the corresponding parties have agreed them in writing.

  • Commercial representation of a product, manufacturer or supplier is one of the six working models, agreed in advance under a representation agreement that defines what is represented, in which market and on what terms.

    Supplier development
  • It depends on the product, the markets involved and the regulations that apply to it. Every project is evaluated individually according to its commercial viability rather than fitted into a standardised timeline, which is why the first phase is a conversation and not a quote.

  • No. The information here is general in nature and does not constitute commercial, legal, regulatory, customs or tax advice. Nothing on the site is a binding offer: commercial terms exist only once the corresponding parties have agreed them in writing.

Products & sourcing
  • The catalog shows examples of the categories we evaluate. Its presence on the site is not an offer, a commitment to supply, or a representation that a given product is available for a given market: availability, specifications, quantities, pricing and commercial conditions are subject to confirmation.

    Product catalog
  • Ask anyway. The catalog is a sample of what moves across the border, not the limit of what we can research. Send the requirement — product, specifications, quantity and destination market — and our team looks into supply options.

    Submit a sourcing request
  • It is set per product and per opportunity, and confirmed with the supplier. Where a product sheet states a minimum, it is indicative and subject to confirmation like the rest of its commercial conditions.

  • That is what product sourcing is: identifying potential manufacturers, suppliers and commercial partners for a specific requirement, and developing the ones that fit into a working commercial relationship.

    Product sourcing
  • Yes, as part of a sourcing project rather than as a separate service. Private-label sourcing and contract manufacturing sourcing are both research and supplier-development work, so they are scoped inside the sourcing engagement.

    Product sourcing
  • Send us the product and we evaluate the fit. From there the work is buyer and distributor identification, and developing the commercial channel that matches the product, its category and the market it is going into.

    Distribution opportunities
Cross-border & compliance
  • Depending on the product, the markets involved and the nature of the operation, a transaction may be subject to requirements from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the FDA, USDA, DOT, EPA, the USMCA / T-MEC framework, NOM, COFEPRIS, SENASICA, the Secretaría de Economía, the SAT and other competent authorities.

    Regulatory requirements
  • No. Not every product can be traded, imported or exported. Each one is evaluated against the rules that apply to it in both the origin and the destination market, and some require permits, registrations, certifications or regulatory approvals before they move at all.

  • The authorised professionals involved in the operation. Summit Trading Group coordinates the commercial communication and the flow of documentation between the parties; it does not perform, and does not hold itself out as performing, the regulated activity itself.

    Cross-border coordination
  • Whether it applies depends on the product, its origin and the markets involved, and it is one of several frameworks a transaction may fall under. It is evaluated per operation, with the authorised professionals who validate the classification and the documentation.

Getting started
  • Through the route that matches the question you are bringing: a sourcing request if you are looking for a product, the supplier form if you manufacture one, the distribution form if you are looking for a channel, or the trade-opportunity form if you are looking for buyers. Each one opens the form built for it, so the first thing we read is the right question.

Where would you like to start?
  • The product, the company, the market and the commercial objective — that is exactly what the first phase asks about. Specifications, quantities, target market and timeline are what let us evaluate the opportunity instead of writing back to ask.

    Talk to our team
  • Write to us in your own words. The forms exist to route a request to the right person faster, not to filter out anything that does not fit them — every message is read.

One note on everything above

These answers are a summary written for reading, not a contract. Where a question touches what Summit Trading Group does or does not represent itself to be, the disclaimer is the text that governs — and it is short enough to read in full.

STILL HAVE A QUESTION

The one you have may not be here.

If your question is specific to your product, your market or your operation, it probably will not be on a general page. Ask it directly and a member of our team will answer it.
